New apartments may be coming to Byron.
Treadstone Developments has bought four homes on Commissioners Road and presented city hall with plans for a five-storey building with 54 units.
“This would offer something not currently available in Byron, something for empty nesters and young couples,” said Michelle Doornbosch of planning firm Zelinka Priamo, which is working with Treadstone.
Though Byron has many single-family homes, it has few apartments and the building would offer some alternative living space, especially for seniors looking to remain in the area, she said.
“There is some (affordable housing apartments), but nothing in that market like this.”
The homes are at 1349 to 1361 Commissioners Rd. The purchase of one house has closed and the three others are expected to close by December, Doornbosch said.
“They will be within walking distance of all services, everything someone would need is right there.”
The development proposal should make its way to the city’s planning and environment committee by November.
“The feedback we have received is positive. We are working with the city on this,” Doornbosch said.
The building would be located on 0.7 hectares, or 1.8 acres.
